So I did the 23andme test some years ago, and found out that I have 10 % Italian blood plus a bit of Iranian roots which was very interesting as my mother had been adopted, never found out where she came from and she (and me) looks everything but German. But of course I was more interested in my health regarding results: My detox panel doesn't look too bad: While the Methylation panel was quite a bit more red: I tried to learn and study as much as I could (as much as you can when you live in constant brain fog and your memory is like Swiss Cheese). It's complicated.
Well the biggie of course is the homozygous MTHFR A1298C mutation. I think only the MTHFR C677T is worse. It means my methylation is reduced to about 20-30 %. Then I have big bright red COMT mutations, leaving me prone to neurotransmitter troubles and depression. I guess these genes come from my mother's side. There probably was a reason why my biological grandmother gave her child away, maybe she had already mental health issues? My mother certainly has, and me, well I am the one trying to break free. Yes, I had and have depression but I am getting better and better and learning how to tame my flawed genes. With the COMT genes I am better off avoiding green tea and curcumin for example, and also Cannabis, which is interesting as smoking it never had an effect on me while the one time I had edibles in my life it was not a nice experience at all. Apparently the COMT gene can lead to psychosis from cannabis which explains why some people really don't do well with it. I wonder what that might mean for trying CBD Oil which I recently ordered. I hope it will effect me differently, since the THC is removed. What else. The VDR mutations which down regulate the Vitamin D absorption so I did well moving to Southern Spain where I get plenty of sunshine in summer. Probably a reason why I don't tan easily (the only time I tanned super easily was when I was raw vegan).
